New aluminum, recyclable roof by Dave Taylor Roofing
Weeks 11 & 12
Sheet rock time! Weeks 11 and 12 were spent sheet rocking the entire home, and buttoning up the rest of the built in framing. Dave Taylor Roofing has been tirelessly installing our beautiful new aluminum, recyclable roof. Give it up for Dave’s guys especially in these 100+ degree days. I still haven’t heard a complaint yet. The MMHG crew has also hosted its second and third open house public demonstrations which have proven to be quite successful.
Hanging drywall can be tedious to say the least but it’s also quite rewarding as the look of the home really starts to take shape during the process. The hanging has taken about two weeks and Jeff Conway will tape, mud and texture all the walls to make them smooth and seamless. After Jeff is all finished the MMHG home will be ready to be painted and ready for cabinets and the rest of the finish work. This is certainly an exciting time in the home building regime.
Garage rooftop deck, by Dave Taylor Roofing
Dave Taylor Roofing and his guys have been roofing the home for the past couple weeks and the work has been amazing. The metal roof looks beautiful and is great addition to this premier “Green” home. Dave’s crew has also been working on one of our most sought out features, the roof top deck. This particular deck sits above the garage and has a quarter twelve pitch to it. This gradual pitch will allow water to drain off of the garage to prevent future water damage. The roof top deck has also had a rubber membrane installed over the top and around the posts and parapet walls to help prevent water damage as well. This deck will be a great place to hang out on especially with the trellis and flora that will be installed as well.
MMHG open house and public, educational green building demonstration
The MMHG’s past two public demonstrations have been very exciting. This past weeks demonstration was near chaos with Construction Site Services grinding our framing debris, the Missoulian writing an article about the MMHG project, and the film crew was out taking video of all of this commotion. Not only this but we had our featured contractors out talking with the general public during all of this extravaganza. What a crazy seminar. But that’s what these demonstrations are all about, informing the public while giving them hands on experience.
The upcoming weeks will be quite exciting with the siding, roofing, solar arrays, painting, and cabinets installs. Check back often with updates and don’t forget to mark your calendar for the upcoming events on August 18th, 25th and September 7th for our final showcasing of the Make My House green home.
