Weeks 13 & 14

During these past couple of weeks Jeff Conway has completed the taping and texturing of the walls. Jeff sure did a fine job with his signature skip trowel texturing and his ability to make the walls seamless and straight.

After the sheet rocking was completed it was time to start painting. The MMHG crew spent weeks picking out colors.  With so many good ideas and inputs it was nearly impossible to choose a color scheme.  Despite the difficulty in determining the colors there was one thing that was a necessity; we couldn’t go safe with the colors, we all knew we had to go bold and it sure paid off.  After many, many sample quarts from Columbia Paints and Coatings we ultimately chose some beautiful colors with the help of Sue Bergemier of Sue B. Design. This house is sure going to stand out now!

newly painted yellow walls in kitchen

MMHG kitchen with newly painted walls and installed cabinetry.

With the help of Tony at Custom Bio Painting the painting began.  Tony is a true professional and only uses the earth friendliest of paints.  All the paint in the house is V.O.C free and looks absolutely stunning. Tony uses paints from Columbia Paints and Coatings.

We made sure Tony started painting in the kitchen so that we could have our cabinets installed.  The cabinets turned out beautifully.  We used some of the rough sawn 2x4’s and 2x6’s as the cabinet faces. Andrew Oberg with Earth and Tool assembled these unbelievable cabinets and they highlight the kitchen wonderfully.

solarium

During weeks 13 and 14 the MMHG crew also tackled the solarium.  The solarium is a true master piece and was the vision of Caleb Beaudin of BDC and Co-Creator of the MMHG project.  Caleb put together the solarium with thought and precision and added our two leaded stained glass windows we discovered so many weeks ago.  The solarium is one of the finest features of our Green home.  It will provide an enjoyable sanctuary for drinking coffee and tea and is the perfect spot for growing herbs and vegetables. The solarium will also provide heat to the home with passive solar energy during the winter months.

The MMHG project is well on its way to completion and should have no problem attaining its September 7th final showcasing goal. With so much help from our green team and the determination from the MMHG crew the project will surely be a success.  Stay tuned for further updates and don’t forget about our weekend demonstrations.
