Riverworks crew waiting for the truss pack to arrive
Week 7
During week 6 we saw breakthrough progress and last week we saw the same. The roof was sheeted and Tony from Custom Bio Paint clear-coated all the exposed tails and cedar soffits. We made sure Tony sealed all the wood before Dave Taylor Roofing installed the lifetime metal roof. Tony uses non-toxic, environmentally sound paints and sealers so the MMHG crew can rest assured that all the products are as earth friendly as possible.
This week the MMHG crew also tackled framing the garage. The nice feature about the garage is that it has a flat roof for a deck and elevated garden. During the summer, this spot literally receives sun light all day long. The garage has a ¼ in 12 pitch so that water doesn’t sit on top. Also this water will be collected and sent to the grey water holding tank. The grey water system is one of the key features of this “Green Home.” Basically the home will collect all the rain water that falls on the house and send it to the grey water holding tank which can then be used to water the garden or the landscaping. The grey water tank will also collect the water from the sinks and showers as well. Thanks to Mark Hauger of MDH Plumbing and Erik and Jack down at Mountain Supply, we were able to install an efficient system for recycling water.
Mark also installed the rough plumbing this week. Along with the grey water system Mark will install the Baxi 98% efficient radiant floor heating system. This is another energy saving method when building or re-building your home. Check back for another amazing plumbing amenity we’re adding in a few weeks.
Also this week we had our HRV installed. This Heat Recovery Ventilating system has two intakes. One pulls air from various rooms in the home such as the kitchen and baths, while the other brings in fresh air from outside. Inside the unit is a filtration system and an interface that extracts dust and pollens from the air, but also recaptures the heat before the air is exhausted. The clean, heated air is then sent back throughout the home through various ductworks. The HRV allows the house to breath. This feature is very important for a home that has a tight envelope and the possibility of condensation from radiant floor heat. Remember the tighter the envelope, the more efficient the home will be, but this often leads to stagnant airflow. With the HRV pulling air in and out of the home it makes certain the air you are breathing is continually fresh and chemical free. MMHG went with a Venmar system provided by Russ Hellem at Energetechs.
In the next couple of weeks the home will really start coming together. The windows and metal roof will be installed. Our electric, audio and lighting wiring will be pulled through the home. Insulation will seal the home up and then the sheet rock and siding will quickly follow. Get ready for our first event coming up July 14th. Check the schedule page for more details.
Stay tuned and have a great week!
