We helped a homeowner in Kingston, SW London, get solar panels for his complex roof and save big on bills
In August 2025, a homeowner from Kingston upon Thames came to use with a desire to reduce his energy costs and reliance on the grid.
The homeowner already used around 3,100 kWh of electricity annually, and planned to install underfloor heating later this year – which would significantly raise his energy costs.
However, he was concerned about the amount of energy he could generate with solar, as his home had a north-facing, pitched roof. Though his home also had flat roof surfaces that panels could be installed on, he had been rejected by other solar companies due to the complexity of such an install. He reached out to us to see if a flat roof installation was possible and whether we’d be willing to take on the job.
We specialise in installing solar panels on flat roofs and other more complex roof types, so we were happy to help the customer make the switch to solar.
Our stellar Senior Solar Consultant, Jess, worked with the homeowner to create a bespoke solar design that fit his home and energy needs. The goal? A system that would effectively work on the home’s flat roof surfaces while maximising the energy generated by the panels.
After a detailed consultation, Jess designed 3 potential solar system options for the customer to choose from, each under his desired budget. After considering each option, the homeowner chose the package below:
To start, we had to figure out the right mounting system and positioning for his panels to ensure they would capture the most sunlight. Since the home had 2 potential roof surfaces for solar, we wanted to ensure we could position the angled panels on both.
Though we usually do our survey process through video call, we organised an in-depth structural survey for the customer. We did this to verify that both flat roof areas could safely bear the weight of the panels, especially given the age of the house. After the survey showed that the roofs could safely support south-facing panels, we were able to proceed with our original plan.
In the end, we installed 4 solar panels with 460W capacity on each roof face, all facing south. The combination of the advantageous, south-facing orientation and the panels’ capacity meant that the new system would generate 3,579kWh every year – more than covering the customer’s current energy needs! We were delighted to bring this beautiful installation to life and help the homeowner make his solar dreams come true.
